RSPB Ribble Discovery Centre |
|
Main Contact: Jane Bryson Description of work: The RSPB field teaching scheme at Ribble Discovery Centre offers an exciting range of education programmes designed to bring learning to life. Pupils are able to explore nature through the first-hand study of birds, other animals and plants. Activites include mud dipping, mini beast safari and the world of water. Part of the RSPB's Living Classrooms scheme, the day visits are led by professional RSPB educators and are safe, hands-on, thought-provoking and fun. Whats Special ?: Ribble Discovery Centre is situated on Fairhaven Lake, next to the spectacular Ribble estuary at Granny's Bay. The centre is an ideal base from which to explore the lake, sand dunes and estuary - which has the third largest bird population of all the UK's estuaries. Supporting almost 300,000 birds every winter, this vast area of mudflats, fringed by saltmarsh and rich invertebrate life, is recognised internationally as an important site for wildlife.
