YHA Eskdale

Main Contact: Mick Blaimires
Description of work:

School pupils on residential trips with YHA can learn how small changes to their lifestyle can dramatically reduce impact on the environment. www.learn4real.co.uk

The ‘Eco lessons' will be delivered as part of the Green Shoots initiative. School groups can opt for a half-day Green shoots module on any or all of the following subjects: sustainability, transport, waste, food, water, energy or tourism.

What's special

Eskdale Youth Hostel is a ‘special place' in a mountainous valley in the remote western Lake District. The extensive YHA grounds offer outdoors environmental study opportunities and practical experience of the youth hostel Biomass heating system will give the opportunity for pupils to address issues of sustainability. (which can be contrasted with other energy types by visits to Eskdale Mill or Sellafield).
