The Footprint Project, National Trust

Main Contact: Kelley Sproston -Community learning Officer
Description of work:

Exciting and cross - curricular discovery sessions focussing on sustainability and the environment, using ‘The Footprint', a new and inspiring eco-classroom, as a stimulus for learning. Sessions are hands on, take place mostly outdoors, and will inspire and enable you and your group towards a greener future. Full and Half day programmes, all year round.

  • '''Who Lives in a Place like this''', which covers natural habitats, shelters, choices and basic needs in human and wildlife systems.
  • '''Leaving a Footprint''', which considers sustainable building materials and their properties, design, choices and decision making.
  • '''Countryside Detectives', using historical evidence and present day clues to interpret the past values that shaped the landscape and to identify the values today that will shape it in the future

What's special  The ‘Footprint' is a new National Trust building at St Catherines, Windermere and is made of straw and other natural building materials. This inspirational place is primarily an education base for schools and is a wonderful example of how we can lessen our impact on the environment whilst at the same time creating an exciting educational and recreational space which compliments the existing landscape.
