The People

The project is aimed at geography teachers within key stages 2 and 3. However, the project materials and outcomes could be adapted for key stages 1 and 4 and post-16.  The project will have a very strong professional development emphasis for all the teachers involved, whether they are on the Valuing Places Co-ordinating Group, or attending one of the dissemination sessions.  This project is clearly as much about the creative involvement of teachers in developing appropriate curriculum materials as the materials themselves.

Outputs

·         Teachers who by participating on the steering group will develop as both teachers of geography and global citizens

·         Teachers who by participating in the regional groups will develop an understanding of the global dimension supported by the creation of curriculum materials and teaching and learning methodologies

·         Teachers who by participating in the in-service training sessions will be engaged and motivated to think creatively about the value of using place to explore global interconnectedness and the poverty reduction agenda.

·         Teachers who explore the web units will be challenged to explore local global connections, rights and responsibilities with their pupils

·         Pupils who are involved in this work, will value the complexity of their own place within their local and global communities.

In addition ... the GA would be interested in using this work to inform conference sessions and a Geography Action Week.  The Action Week is normally held during October and is a major national event inviting schools to be involved in creative classroom activities.
